From Frustration to Engagement: Reimagining Quality Engineering Through Play

Target audience

Basic (no prior knowledge)

Description

When stakeholders or team members do not fully understand testing, frustration can build quickly. One way to address this is to involve them directly and help them experience the tester’s role and the value of collaboration. This workshop explores how playful methods, such as games, can support this shift.

Through gamified activities, participants will experience common challenges in testing and quality engineering, while exploring how engagement can improve shared understanding. A central exercise invites participants to build a product using LEGO bricks, uncover hidden issues, and explore unknowns. This highlights the importance of early testing, collaboration, and communication within teams.

The workshop demonstrates how gamification can be used to involve both team members and stakeholders in quality practices. Participants will also take away practical ideas that can be applied to improve team dynamics and support a more collaborative approach to quality engineering.

You will learn

  • How to use gamification to engage team members and stakeholders in testing

  • How to apply facilitation techniques for both testers and non-testers

  • How to use practical activities to improve team collaboration and dynamics

  • How gamified exercises can highlight challenges in testing and quality engineering

  • How to apply these approaches to support collaboration and team performance
